King Electronics has jumped headlong into the automotive aftermarket with its revolutionary ignition system testers. Designed to check both distributor and distributor-less ignition systems at normal and extreme high rpm, this is the first ignition tester capable of testing and calibrating traditional distributors, magnetos and today?s high output capacitive discharge (CD) ignition systems.
King has based its R&D and manufacturing facility in Moorpark, California. It is now constructing a state-of-the-art engine dynamometer cell that will house a 1,500-horsepower Mustang Eddy Current dyno to test its upcoming performance products. Also, King recently added a new 5-axis Haas machining center capable of manufacturing extremely precise and intricate automotive components.
King?s latest product release is its Coil Tester Model ACT-16 0-20 ampere analog ammeter is designed as an add-on to its D16T ignition tester and will be standard equipment on the premium D16. The ammeter will measure total current input into the primary side of the coil that indicates the ignition system?s secondary coil voltage output to the spark plugs. This gives technicians and tuners a tool to evaluate the value of various ignition systems from different manufacturers. A hotter spark at high rpm ensures peak horsepower.
The King Coil Tester Model ACT-16 resides in a housing machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, electroless nickel plated for corrosion resistance and good electrical conductivity. It also has a pair of drilled and tapped holes on top of the housing for mounting a coil clamp to hold coils while testing. It retails for $ 325.00.
